With increasing symptoms and daily difficulties it is imperative that support is given for structuring the day and for leaving the home and meeting others.
In this phase the visit of a home consultant or the participation in special training- and stimulation groups for dementia patients will be a very good thing. Also participating in next-of-kin groups and family holidays will be useful.
Dutch experiments have demonstrated the efficiency of in-house occupational therapy. Families are taught and practically trained in cooperating about the daily tasks at home. See article here>>
Care in peoples’ homes is best given by specialized, permanent staff, who are trained in dementia care.
Activity and treatment
A special evidence-based stimulation program called Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) has been developed by Dr. Aimee Spector, UCL, London.

Other suitable activites are music, dancing, art, physical exercise, drama, spiritual activities, reminiscense, storytelling, massage, cooking or outdoor activities.
